“Well, you've swallowed the rule book on punk, that is for sure and there's plenty of vitriol going on. It reminds me most of the Undertones, not complete vitriol, but a seam of youthful sneer at the same time. It makes for undeniable retro fare, but exuberance at the same time, so please keep me posted on your new releases!”
The One Twos
The One Twos knock out, old school inspired punk, with slaps of garage and dashes of reggae. All swagger and no frills, the music is served up with gritty guitar, plucky bass and thumping drums and acidic vocals – is anything else really needed? Lyrically, “protest punk” would be a fair description for the band’s songs. Unafraid to voice an Australian accent and push forward undiluted points of view, these straight up songs shout down poorly conceived government policy, the big end of town and various dimwits and phobias; ranting and cajoling…as punk should.
The band’s debut album, aptly titled, “Fight The Good Fight” will drop in the second half of 2019. Given that the songs are often putting David against Goliath, the title refers to the thought that sometimes all you can do is keep swinging; even when the odds are stacked against you! Recorded at “Half Way Studios”, in faithful analogue format, the One Twos had the multi-talented Luke Yeoward (131s/former King Cannons) in their corner to stir them on and capture the blood, sweat and tears of their first release.
The opening volley from this relatively new unit will be the in your face, anti-racist single, “No Ticker”. This will be followed by “Gilly Pull the Trigger”, a tribute to former Australian Human Rights Commissioner, Gillian Triggs and her battle with Government to highlight human rights issues and abuses in our country. A pair of provocative videos, shot by Mark Bakaitis, accompanies the singles and ensures that the band’s mix of music and politics stays at the forefront of what they are about.
The One Twos stable of hard hitters: Mik Weird, Clever Bobb, Captain Luxurious & Rhino, look forward to putting you on the ropes!
